Hi!
Welcome to my site! Thank you for visiting!
What am I offering that is different?
I seek to share ‘hidden truths’ about life – both as it is lived now and as it has been lived in the past.
The latter approach is about family memoir and and the other is from personal experiences. By exploring my heritage as well as current experiences, I aim to capture what was and meld it with what is and at times, inject hope as I dare to project what could be!
I seek to uncover and share life’s golden nuggets and diamonds that I uncover through these writing journeys. I hope to give inspiration to those with whom my writing resonates.
Why go on a retrospective journey?
It helps me to make sense of life. My past is not who I am. It is not who we are. In teasing out who I am in the face of socio-cultural values, I seek to enlighten not only myself, but hopefully, you the reader, as individuals seeking to live our best lives.
How my writing journey began
Thirty years after qualifying as teacher and exploring the world of education in two countries, I decided ‘enough’! After much soul-searching, I began writing as a ‘writer’.
I was fortunate to have a beautiful home in the Perth hills where I chose to explore how to shift my mindset from curriculum packages, lesson plans, a brief interim of conference papers and paralegal opportunities to a gradual learning of how to write fiction. Navigating the gulf between formal writing and less formal, being ‘more creative’ was a whole new journey.
I attended workshops, retreats and writing groups and gradually turned my hand to short stories, poetry, inspirational sayings and creative non-fiction. Over a long period of time, I put a novel in the proverbial bottom drawer, published a few short stories in anthologies and shared my thoughts in posts on social media. I wrote a lot of free-verse poetry, much of it as a journal about my life.
Slowly, I discovered I like blending historical research into narratives, mixing ‘olde worlde’ with new, like vintage wine with a good cheese. As I have said above, these stories capture essential truths that enlighten my way, my journey through life.
With multitude experiences that no AI program can tap into until they are written and published, I aim to –
- draw on my families’ life stories, amazing repertoire of memorabilia, and tales told.
- inspire with insights and thoughts that I share with an image or two from my favourite past-time, photography.
- share my ‘aha’ moments, my realizations about life, from my trips and travels which I feel fortunate to have experienced through inspirational quotes, in family stories and in poetry.
In short, I aim to bring to the world something of my world in the hope that it makes your day, your journey that bit lighter.
